5/18/2023 0 Comments Minecraft dungeons wallpaperIt supports up to four players in online multiplayer as well as couch co-op, which is just lovely. Co-Op OptionsAs is the case with basically all loot-based crawlers, Minecraft Dungeons is much more fun to play with friends. In fact, for the final boss, I'd go so far as to say it was a little harder than I anticipated. By the end, the difficulty felt just right for a first playthrough. The latter half of the campaign is much more of a challenge, and required me to approach battles thoughtfully and carefully manage my potions and artifact usage. but as I leveled up, so too did the difficulty. I was able to thoughtlessly hack and slash my way through the first few levels. Speaking of ease, when I first started playing Minecraft Dungeons I thought the normal difficulty skewed a bit on the easy side. Combat feels just right in a Fisher-Price: My First Dungeon Crawler sort of way: it's not too complex but still gives you the abilities to confront enemies at range or face to face. There are also wolves, llamas, and other creatures you can call upon with artifacts, and they can make a big difference when you're being rushed by dozens of lower-level enemies like zombies and need backup. You can slot three artifacts to your character with different offensive or defensive effects, which is just enough to expand your abilities in battle without overcomplicating things. For a ranged-based character build, I prefer the Hunter's Armor, since it gives bonuses to your arrow capabilities, but there are other armors to suit the needs of a tank playstyle, a fast "assassin" or a soul-collector heavy on soul-infused artifact usage. You get two weapons: a close-range melee weapon and a long-range weapon. Some of them do look pretty cool, though – I went with the guy with the mohawk, because he’s clearly a badass. There's nothing different about them from a gameplay perspective, which is a bummer, especially since that’s all there is as far as character customization. When I first started a new game, I was thrilled to see a massive selection of what I initially thought were player classes, but it turned out you just choose from a list of pre-made skins. That's pretty much it – don’t expect the kind of swing-for-the-fences attempt at storytelling that Telltale went for with its Minecraft: Story Mode spin-off adventure. You spend next six to eight hours chasing him down and defeating his minions until finally you face him in his castle. The main villain, the Arch Illager, stole an Orb of Power from the other Illagers and uses it for generic evil. The story is simple and exists only to tie together the dungeon-crawling levels. There's a definite advantage to a world constructed from the intentional low-fidelity building blocks of the Minecraft universe, especially with none of that pesky building or destroying to complicate things. It's a pretty low-impact game, and even when the screen fills with mobs, projectiles, and magic, I didn't notice any performance issues. I also set the frame rate to 120 (my monitor has a 144Hz refresh rate), which also caused no problems or hesitation, and I could probably go higher. I feel like I could just sit in the middle of the level and soak it up and still enjoy it.Īs far as graphical performance goes, I'm playing Minecraft Dungeons on a GeForce GTX 1080-powered gaming PC, and all the graphical settings automatically maxed out to their highest by default when I first started it up. The rustling leaves and whispering winds of the ambient sounds took some primordial part of my brain to the same place it goes at the start of the actual fall season. Its orange and yellow foliage sways gently in the breeze, and jack o'lanterns and harvested wheat bundles lay by the wayside in the ruins of the town. One of my favorite levels is an autumn-themed village that’s been pillaged by the forces of the Arch Illager. You could transplant the Minecraft Dungeons soundtrack into Minecraft proper and it would feel right at home. Levels with higher stakes near the end, for example, have much more dramatic music, but it never goes overboard or feels out of place in the Minecraft universe. It has a soundtrack different from the main game, but it does a phenomenal job of keeping the lo-fi style of the original's music while tweaking the feel just enough to make it thematically appropriate for a dungeon-crawling adventure.

You can also get more with a Premium Membership to Davies Media Design.Author: Sharlie Last modified: April 19 2019 If you did, you can check out my other Inkscape Help Articles and Video Tutorials, or your can view my other tutorials and courses on GIMP and Darktable. You now have curved text! That’s it for this tutorial – hopefully you liked it. You can now reposition the text to wherever you want without it being effected by the curved path. This will convert your text to a path and separate it from the curved line. Then, go to Path>Object to Path (red arrow in the image above). Once the curve of the text is how you want it, grab the select tool from your toolbox and select the text. If you gave a node handles when you created it (when you clicked and drag to create a curve), those handles will reappear when you click on that node and will allow you to adjust the curve of the line (red arrow). If you want to change the curvature of the path to adjust how the text look, you can always grab the “Edit paths by nodes” tool (red arrow in the image above – shortcut key “n” on the keyboard) and click on any of the nodes you created when you drew the curve. This will draw your text across the curved path. Then, hold the shift key on your keyboard and click on your text to select both the curve and text simultaneously (red arrows in the image above).įinally, go to Text>Put on Path. Grab the select tool from the Toolbox (shortcut key “S”) to select the curve. Release your mouse when you have the curve you want. Then, click and drag a third node on the far right side of the canvas (red arrow in the image above – or wherever you want your curve to end) – the line will already be curved from the second node you created, but you can also click and drag when you create this node to further curve it. Go about halfway across your canvas (red arrow in the photo above – or whatever total distance you want your curve to be) and click and drag to create a second node with a curve (you’ll see blue handles pop out on either side of the second node – denoted by the green arrow in the photo). To do this, simply click on the canvas to create a node (blue arrow in the image above). Draw a curved path in the shape you would like to curve your text. Next, grab the “Bezier Curves” tool (also known as the “Paths” tool – red arrow in the image above) from the toolbox (you can also use the shortcut key “B”). For this example, I have my text justified to the center. Finally, to have it aligned to the right side of the curve set the text to be justified to the right. To have it centered, have the text justified to the center. If you want your text to be aligned to the far left of the curve you draw, make sure you have the text justified to the left. You’ll want to justify your text based on how you want it to sit on the curve (blue arrow). I went with Century Gothic for the font, and 72 pt for the font size. Once you have typed out your text, you can use the Tool Options bar to change the font (red arrow in the photo above) and size (green arrow) of your text. In my case, I just went with “CURVED TEXT” in all caps. Once you have the text tool selected, click on your canvas and type whatever text you’ll be curving. I’ll start by grabbing the text tool from the Toolbox (red arrow in the photo above – you can also use the shortcut key “T”). 5/18/2023 0 Comments Strawberry lemonadeUltimately, only you can know and decide what’s good for you! 5/17/2023 0 Comments Imagej thresholdingPlease note that the plugins described here use additional classes also residing in the Morphology collection, so those need to be installed, too. The Java code is included in the Morphology collection. The regional threshold plugin is called Threshold_Regional_Gradient.įurther details of the algorithms, performance and examples are included in our paper accessible through Open Access. Note that this is a computationally intensive procedure, so it is relatively slower than most other thresholding methods that process, for example, one dimensional histograms. The boundaries representing the highest gradients are then extracted by means of the regional maxima of the projection.įurthermore, when combining filtering of the candidate regions based on morphological descriptors such as circularity and region size, the approach allows an efficient and clean extraction of the regions which exhibit the highest gradients. Then, the binary boundaries are labelled with that value and the ensemble of all boundaries is projected, retaining the maximum values (a maxima Z projection). The boundaries of the binary regions thus generated are used to query the value of the average gradient at those positions in the original image. The procedure involves first a threshold decomposition step (where regions are extracted at all possible threshold ranges (e.g. candidate binary regions that might represent the intended object in the image) independently, therefore becoming an adaptive local thresholding procedure which operates on regions, rather than on pixels of local image subsets as is the case in the vast majority of local thresholding methods in the literature. The second method is a more interesting and complex variation of the same principle, but operates on the discrete connected components of the thresholded phase (i.e. The plugin is called Threshold_Global_Gradient and it has the option of using two possible measures of the phase gradient (the mean and the total gradient). The procedure consists of searching the greyscale space for a threshold value that generates a phase whose boundary coincides with the largest gradients in the original image. The first one is a simple global thresholding procedure suitable for single or multiple global thresholds (i.e. The advantage of the computerised versions presented here is that the methods do not suffer from the uncertainty of “when to stop adjusting” the threshold. Users most often find the “right” threshold value by repeatedly over- and under-thresholding the image until the thresholded phase more or less coincides with the sought objects in the image. The procedures implemented are based on a reinterpretation of the strategy observed in human operators when adjusting thresholds manually and interactively by means of ‘slider’ controls. We would be grateful if you cite the paper in any publications where you use these methods (and let us know about it). Automatic thresholding from the gradients of region boundaries. Universal Clipboard is yet another feature that was introduced in macOS Sierra and iOS 10. Double the buffer, just like that! What is Mac's Universal Clipboard As this feature uses a different functionality, it won’t remove what is currently on the main copy-paste clipboard. Note that this cuts, rather than copies, the text. To paste it in its new location, use Control + Y. Here’s how to open clipboard that is called hidden secondary clipboard on Mac: select any text and then Control + K to cut it. Not many people know that macOS has a hidden secondary clipboard for cutting and pasting functions. Natively, your Mac also carries a second, very little-known clipboard that you can use to effectively double your copy buffer. You can’t just open clipboard and see everything you’ve ever copied (and we hate it!) Once you copy something else, the first copied item disappears. Unfortunately, this produces some limitations. The problem is, we are so used to it, so used to skipping back and forth between tasks that once we’ve copied something, if we don’t paste it right away, we can lose it and need to start again. When you stop and think about it, copy and paste is remarkable (on a Mac: ⌘ + C to copy, then ⌘ + V to paste). Wherever we have an internet connection, we can share those creations or links with anyone else in the world. And that’s not inherently bad genres should be able to encompass a variety of points of view. Comedy and fantasy can still be colorful and glass-half-full in outlook, but as both genres have expanded over time, there’s also been a trend towards more complicated, and more cynical, narratives. Perhaps the aspect of The Court Jester most like its era, and most appealing today, is its bright optimism. Potts, The Court Jester is worth a watch just to see what she can do with an empty-headed comic part. If you only know Lansbury through roles such as kindly Mrs. She who would be the Maid Marian figure in a true swashbuckler is instead a self-absorbed dilettante of romance who holds the threat of death over her hapless witch-counselor Griselda ( Mildred Natwick) if she can’t deliver a gallant suitor. It brings laughs to the genre without belittling or subverting it – except for the princess Gwendolyn, played by a young Angela Lansbury. The result is a hilarious succession of mistaken identities and crossed-wire schemes by heroes and villains alike. The Court Jester is more a comedy of errors than a total parody, with many of the traditional adventure story beats played seriously but with the “wrong” protagonist cursed with bad timing. Hawkins himself isn’t stupid or incompetent, only unprepared and uninformed. His time with it isn’t made any easier through bumbling of the villains Cecil Parker’s evil king may have a comic side to him, but Basil Rathbone’s Lord Ravenhurst is the true antagonist, and every bit as cunning and ruthless as the baddies Rathbone played in straight swashbucklers. Hawkins doesn’t get caught in such a predicament because of any failure or betrayal by the hero the Black Fox is as loyal, courageous, and clever as Robin Hood. Tasked with moving the royal baby to safety, he ends up caught in a web of intrigue inside the false king’s castle, pulled hither and yon by disguises, treachery, and hypnotic sorcery. Hawkins has the desire and the heart for more harrowing service to the cause, but not the skills or the steady nerve. The film looks through the eyes of Hubert Hawkins ( Danny Kaye), a minstrel who entertains the Black Fox’s band and helps care for the legitimate (infant) heir to the throne. This is no traditional swashbuckler following the adventures of its highwayman, however. The opening premise – a usurper holds the throne of England, a dashing outlaw defies his villainy – is unashamedly borrowed from the legend of Robin Hood, with a dash of Zorro thrown in (the outlaw wears a mask and is called the Black Fox). But it is a film that knows what genre it’s lampooning. The Court Jester isn’t nearly so aggressive in its references, and there were no Internet memes for it to try and capitalize on in 1955. Some might even say the style’s become too ubiquitous, and that chasing after trends like this is more a detriment than a delight – but that’s for another day. Whether it’s Disney poking its own well-worn conventions of princesses and romance, Spider-Man: No Way Home winking toward that famous pointing meme, or every single time your friends and relations share some variation on a meme through social media, meta humor is all around us. In the age of the Internet, we’re all accustomed to self-referential media. The Court Jester is a send-up, and in that respect is well-suited to certain audiences of today. For all its bright colors and gentle humor, though, The Wizard of Oz is a straightforward fantasy. 5/17/2023 0 Comments Natalie macmaster tour 2022Q: What is the joy you find in working together?Ī: The joy of being with the family and traveling and living together while on tour. It’s a way to get into the community and raise money, and a way for us to keep in touch with the theaters. They are selling the tickets and say they are presenting Natalie and me. Theaters are presenting the tour almost like we were coming to town. Natalie and I have been touring together for five to seven years.Ī: We recognized that theaters were struggling and decided to do a tour to help them out. I and my 10 siblings toured as the group Leahy and I still tour with my own groups. I grew up in Ontario, but my mother was from Cape Breton and my father was from Ireland. She comes from Cape Breton Island, off Nova Scotia, which has an unique culture in Scottish music that came from the 1600s, and grew up playing traditional music. Leahy took some time out his busy schedule to answer a few questions, which are lightly edited for clarity.Ī: Natalie has been playing fiddle since she was 9. The Case of the Mysterious Squabbyquash (ft.Speaking from their home in Ontario, Canada, Leahy said the virtual concert will include their children: Mary Frances, 15 Michael, 13 Clare, 11 Julia, 9 Alec 8 Sadie, 6 and Maria, 2, “causing a lot of mischief” in addition to showing off their talent on fiddle, accordion, piano, guitar, and song and dance. True-life stories in the entertainment world (or anywhere) don’t come more remarkable than that. MacMaster and Leahy are as dynamic working together as they were working apart, which is why they have fans like Shania Twain and The Chieftains, an audience that stretches from Sydney, Nova Scotia, to Sydney, Australia. Listening to Canvas, the average listener might not be able to discern the difference in their two styles - and it doesn’t matter, because either way you’re listening to two of the best fiddlers on the planet. “She’s a musical star but her commitment to her family and to me is a side nobody gets to see. The other 60 percent is arrangements where we each take turns or are playing alone.” “I think the thing I’m most proud of is Natalie,” says Leahy. Only about 40 percent of our show is us playing together. Having said that, I still play in my Cape Breton style. “I also had to try and roll with his rhythm. “With Donnell, I had to listen more deeply to subtleties in his music so that I wouldn’t muscle over them,” MacMaster says. Like any great marriage or artistic collaboration, MacMaster and Leahy have learned how to bring out the best in each other. And here I am now doing almost exactly the same thing. “I was so in awe of Donnell’s family,” says MacMaster, “of 11 siblings who could play and had a family band. They feel like a part of the tour and that provides amazing gratification.” Our kids are practicing and when they come out on stage and do their little number, it’s their reward. For me, the game was playing house parties. But you need to get into the game at some point. When I was a kid, I played the fiddle for my parents and my brothers and sisters. “But then one night we put Mary Frances on stage. We worried the expectations might be too much,” Leahy says. “Initially we were reluctant to let the kids perform. Guests include Rhiannon Giddens ( Woman Of The House), Yo-Yo Ma ( So You Love), Brian Finnegan ( Colour Theory) - and, on Choo Choo, their 17-year-old daughter Mary Frances Leahy.Īll seven of their children have become essential components of the live show, which sells out performing arts centres across North America - especially leading up to Christmas holidays. Rock, pop, Latin and classical influences come to the fore on the new material of mostly original melodies. With a few challenges along the way, it was a delight from beginning to end.” As Donnell often said, ‘Let the music decide.’ So, we indulged in full musical freedom, throwing patterns of the past aside. There were no restrictions, rules, agendas, considerations. Like an empty canvas, our minds were clear, open for the music that was about to flow. “One thing Donnell and I were given in 2020 was the space and time to be creative, to think and focus and find what was inside of us. “Creativity comes when there is space for it,” says MacMaster. They approached it not bound by easy patterns or habits, but as a blank canvas. A power couple was born.Ĭanvas is only their third album together. Most people are unaware that iWork is free for anyone to use. Their cheaper competitors are selling you much less, and you will end up spending more money in the long run. It’s part of the reason why Apple products are “so expensive”. iWork is free because Apple device sales subsidize its costs. Anyone with an iCloud account can use Pages, Numbers, Keynote and more for free. I use iWork because it’s free and good enough. Ugh! Sometimes tech companies are so smart that they’re actually stupid. The workaround is to copy it to a plain text editor and then copy it to your word processor. The copied text should fit the style of the inserted document in the vast majority of cases, and should therefore be the default. I really don’t care for any of the technology, from most tech companies, that keeps the original style of copied text. Is this a feature or a bug? Do people really want text automatically pasted in some strange box? I can’t stand this “beature” (mysterious hybrid of a feature and a bug). The workaround is to type a few characters in the document and then paste the text. This usually happens with a brand new document. For example, if I copy and paste text into a Pages document, it will often paste the text in a box. Apple’s word processor has an annoying tendency to do things automatically - things that I don’t want done. I don’t need to transfer the file explicitly. Later, I may proofread and publish it on my Mac. For example, I am writing this article on my iPad right now. I use Pages to write documents, which I can access anywhere. My favorite feature of iWork is that it works over the cloud. iWork also allows similar customization and interactivity with AppleScript. I used these features early in my career to create mailing labels from a database. Microsoft Office allows developers to embed code into documents, making traditionally static pages more dynamic. Keynote’s lack of interruption from notifications actually drove many users from Microsoft Office to iWork.ĭespite the notion that Apple products are simplistic, both office suites offer advanced features. Users seem to like Pages’ layout features better than Word’s. Although the two software suites differ slightly, some prefer one over the other. This article shows you how to use iWork on macOS and Windows for free. It functions much like Microsoft Office or LibreOffice. Individual iWork apps are $4.99 on the iOS App Store but are made free to any new iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad owner.IWork is Apple’s suite of office applications. The best part? Create a document on your iPhone or Mac and pick up where you left off on your iPad with iCloud sync. Just like Numbers, Keynote plays nice with Microsoft Office as well and lets you save files in PowerPoint format if and when you need to.Īll of the iWork apps support multiple export formats including PDF. Easily make presentations for work or for school, for conferences or for pitches, for conceptual design or story boarding of any kind. Need to create an eye-catching presentation? That's where Keynote comes in. This way you can rest assured any Microsoft Office users will have no trouble opening and viewing your Numbers files. If you regularly use Excel files, not to worry, Numbers not only opens them but lets you save any file you create in a native Excel format. Numbers is an all-in-one spreadsheet solution that lets you quickly plan anything and everything from a checklist to budget, savings plan to schedule, team roster to party plan, invoice to cost projection, grade book to lesson chart. Add clip art, images, and more to personalize your documents even further. Pick from many hand designed templates or download one from several online sources and import it. With Pages you can elegantly compose anything and everything from a newsletter to a book, a memo to flyer, essay to resume, poster to card. However, if your'e tied into the iCloud ecosystem and also own a Mac, iWork may be a better option. The iWork suit of apps is similar in features to what Microsoft offers with their Office for iPad suite of apps. IWork for iPhone and iPad is Apple's mobile office and productivity suite, comprised of Pages for word processing, Numbers for spreadsheets, and Keynote for presentations. |
